16.10.2023 – KIC Motorsport driver Maya Weug in huge crash at Dutch Zantvoort – Finnish Racing Team didn’t collect any points from penultimate round of the Formula Regional by Alpine EU racing series
17th and 18th races of season 2023 edition of Formula Regional by Alpine European Championship series were driven in very demanding weather conditions at Dutch circuit of Zantvoort. Finnish KIC Motorsport entered the event with its’ Ferrari Academy driver Maya Weug and ukraine Ivan Klymenko.
Both rookie drivers encounted drama as Weug was 17th fastest in Saturdays event and was forced to retire in Sunday due heavy crash. Ivan Klymenko was 23th fastest in Saturdays 30 minute race. However he didn’t start in Sundays event due a crash he encountered in qualifying.
In Saturdays race, which were driven in dry conditions, Weug passed six and Klymenko eight competitors. Also in Sundays race Weug had already rised eight positions before experiencing a heavy impact with another drive who had spun in front of her. Furthermore as two slower driver hit spinning Weug and therefore in total of five drivers were forced to retire the race.
As Championship leader, Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli was 2nd fastest in Saturdays race and victorious in Sundays race, he secured the Championship title as there are still two rounds to be driven. Norwegian Martinius Stenshorne also secured his Rookies Championship title. However Teams Championship title is still open as Prema Racing enters the final weekend, which is to be driven in next weekend at German circuit of Hockenheimring, in 43 points lead. KIC Motorsport is in 10th position in teams standings.
